Paul Nijs (b. 1998) is a percussionist and composer from Weert, The Netherlands.
Paul started playing percussion when he was about 8 years old. As an active solo performer, he has participated in several (inter)national competitions, including World Music Contest, Dutch Championships and the prestigious Princess Christina Competition (PCC). He performed many concerts on stages in The Netherlands, Belgium, Germany and even China. In his career he took part in masterclasses by Lennard Nijs, Pedro Carneiro, Fumito Nunoya, Nanae Mimura, Tchiki Duo, Raymond Curfs and Nebojsa Jovan Zivkovic.
In 2011 he won during the World Music Contest with the highest number of points of all percussionists. Besides this he achieved an ‘Honourable Mention’ that was presented by the Commissioner of the King of Brabant at the Princess Christina Competition. In 2013 he became Dutch Champion Marimba for the third time in a row.
In 2014 Paul went through a number of musical highlights, including a concert at the ‘Meeting Day’ at Herman van Veen’s estate ‘De Paltz’ in Soest and a concert during the ‘Prinsjesbal’ which was held in the context of Prince’s Day in Sorority ‘De Witte’ in The Hague.
In addition to solo performances, Paul was one of the percussionists in the ‘Orchestra of the Netherlands’, which was broadcast from the Grote Zaal of the Royal Concertgebouw Amsterdam during a live television broadcast in December 2014.
The year 2014 was particularly closed during the concert tour to Shanghai with Harmonie St.-Joseph 1880 Weert. A varied program was performed in special and beautiful concert halls. During the concerts, Paul was one of the soloists.
In 2016 Paul was a finalist in the prestigious Princess Christina Competition.
As a timpanist he participated in the musical ‘Chess in Concert’, the musical ‘West Side Story’ and the musical ‘Wieërt 601’.

Zaterdag 26 november 2016 heeft Paul deelgenomen aan het Adams International Percussion Festival. Dit vond plaats bij Adams Muziekcentrale in Ittervoort. Hij volgde masterclasses bij Fumito Nunoya, Pedro Carneiro en Etienne Houben. Paul speelde op marimba het nieuwste werk van Nebojša Jovan Živković, getiteld ‘Homo Balcanicus’. 14 augustus tot en met 21 augustus heeft de International Summer Academy voor Marimba & Percussion (ZISAMP) van Nebojša Jovan Živković plaatsgevonden in Duitsland, Bingen am Rhein.
